US Online Influencer Penalized After Mass Electric Bike Ride on Iconic Australian Bridge

NSW police have issued a fine against an American social media personality and handed out two driving violation citations for alleged reckless operation following a swarm of electric bicycle users gathered on the famous Sydney landmark during the busy commute on a weekday.

The Event: An Illegal Gathering

A group of approximately 40 people operating e-bikes and motorcycles travelled along the bridge’s main deck, an area where bicycle riding is banned. The riders subsequently reversed direction and rode through the city’s CBD and a nearby district.

"There was a risk of serious injury or fatalities," stated NSW police assistant commissioner David Driver on the following day.

Police indicated they did not immediately pursue the group due to concerns for public safety but instead located the assembly at a scenic Sydney lookout near the city gardens, at which point they broke up.

Penalties Issued for Influencer

On Saturday, authorities stated they had served the US social media influencer who goes by Sur Ronster, 26, with two violation tickets for careless operation (not involving death or prior injury), carrying a fine of over five hundred dollars and penalty points per notice, connected to the bridge ride-out. Officials noted that the investigation is ongoing.

The personality is said to have more than 3.4m subscribers on YouTube and over 1.2 million on Instagram.

Influencer's Comments

The online figure spoke with a major newspaper recently following the event spread rapidly on news sites and social media, stating he was sorry for giving "the biking community" a bad reputation.

"I’ll probably take responsibility. That was one of the safest ride-outs I have witnessed," he said. "I’m coming here as a guest, so I’m going to abide by the rules and standards of Sydney. So when I decided to do a meet and greet it was not meant to include a ride-out, it was just to greet people under the bridge."

"I’m unfamiliar with the city, it was my fault we ended up on the bridge and I had a decision to make: whether the group completes the entirety of the bridge and comes back, which is a crime. Or we reverse, essentially, before we’re on the bridge. I chose at the time to go back."

Broader Context on Electric Bike Rules

The increase of e-bikes on streets across the country has sparked increasing demands for stricter rules. The federal health minister, the minister, recently said that illegal ebikes were a "total menace on the road."

"Kids have done reckless acts on bikes ever since the penny-farthing [but] the injuries that are presenting at our ERs are truly severe," the minister said. "We’ve got to make sure we stop these things coming into the country [and] officers are given the authority to crack down, to take them away, to destroy them, to dispose of them."

The state reported over two hundred injuries related to electric bikes in 2024. But, in the first seven months of 2025, that number surged to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four fatalities.
