The buzz around the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team could be building a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
