The blaze devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of January 1st. Verified footage depict the ceiling catching alight as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.

Emergency services have warned that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the victims of the tragedy, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another over a hundred.
