Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
