Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport Following Significant Control Tower IT Issue

Aircraft at the stand at the Scottish hub
A systems problem at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant all flights could arrive or depart from the airport.

Flight operations have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

Every arrival and departure were suspended after an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, considerable delays are likely to persist for some time. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with many others subject to postponements.

Officials had initially projected that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Flyers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the hub as backlogs are worked through.
