Spoiler alert - This article reveals details from The Celebrity Traitors finale

Over the course of the show, viewers witnessed murders, double-crosses, intense glares, and a memorable moment that cut through all tension.

However on the final evening, the final winner of the first Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.

From nineteen participants, only five remained: Deceivers and loyal players facing off for the prize.

Soon, the competition tightened to only three contenders: the final players.

In the end, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the champion, in a shocking outcome that broke the internet and left him emotional.

"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he declared, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."

"You did brilliantly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."

Social media immediately exploded with this development. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," commented a viewer.

"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," wrote another, while a third described it as "the TV moment of the year."

His chosen charity, a cancer charity, will receive the entire winnings, with the final pot amounting to £87,500.

Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the season.

However, his victory still shocked viewers in shock, according to industry observers.

"The idea of Alan, among everyone, pulling off a masterclass in deceit felt about as likely as him keeping composure through his comedy routines."

On subsequent discussions, fellow players summed up the reasons nobody had ever really suspected him.

"Alan could have appeared to the morning meal in traitor attire and I still wouldn't have thought he was deceiving us. His humor distracted me," a player said.

"The majority didn't vote for him because how can you vote for a person so charming?" asked another celebrity.

Carr said he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the program.

"I'd like to participate once more... I doubt it would be successful again!"

Thursday evening's episode was extended to over an hour on the network. There was a different start than typical episodes, as all the celebs were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.

There was particularly inspiring, and atypical for the show soundtrack, as we recapped some moments from each of the finalists' time in the castle.

True to form, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.

"Let's face it, I began this game a bit of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed some really good friends to save myself, I've murdered beloved figures openly. Apparently I'm more deceptive and player than I believed."

At the same time, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than competing with a national team", while someone else said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.

In the beginning in the episode, various contestants seemed to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the competition, replacing an earlier departed style leader.

The winner appeared at the morning meal looking like a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.

However, he got out-jacketted by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. What a look.

Next up was the challenge, with the remaining contestants getting on board a locomotive called - naturally - The Traitors Express.

This task involved destroying images of eliminated players. Spare a thought for one participant who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.

Soon after, the moment arrived for the roundtable.

Two traitors did a pinky promise in advance, pledging to stick together. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," stated one, while the other simply laughed.

And one did stick to his promise. Yet, managing to stay unnoticed for the majority of the competition, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.

The last deceiver appeared he was in a world of pain to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."

Online platforms and viewers were similarly upset.

"I hoped against that player to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," commented an observer.

"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," posted another user.

However, there remained little opportunity to focus on their elimination. Soon, they were at the endgame - this being what we were really all here for.

The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. And the alliance broke down, precisely when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.

A player was eliminated in dramatic fashion - following a surprising decision from their ally, who betrayed them.

"This pains me to be stabbed in the back at the final moment in that manner," remarked the ousted contestant. Later, we learned that when they message, the eliminated contestant refers to their former ally by a betrayer's name.

Finally, only three contestants remained in the game: the last participants.

A contestant, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the competition. The same decision was made by a different player, and everything depended on the third, who did the same - resulting in the traitor emerged victorious.

According to commentators, the scene where the other players comforted the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it will be in the running for memorable moment at television honors," they commented.

Fortunately, the winner soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy his victory.

"Such an emotional journey. I was awful at lying, I had no poker face and now I stand the champion," the winner said.

And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his best friend in an early episode - by leaning toward the host in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.

"There's something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.

The recent episodes of famous people scheming, plotting and the occasional unexpected moments may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually occur. And we will miss it.
