A Heap of Anime News Dropped Over the Holidays

The Yuletide season present a wealth of pursuits much better than checking the latest news: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and using meditation skills to not snapping at relatives. I hope you managed to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy developments surfaced during the break, and should you missed a few, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter the series' continuation. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a good sign. However, the key visual for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio renowned for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Shortly after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has yet to be revealed.
